The Falling (2014/Cinedigm DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: C Film: C+

Starring one of the most fierce and tremendous young acting talents and star of Dr. Who and Game of Thrones, Maisie Williams, The Falling is a school girls gone crazy movie full of intrigue and suspense at a strict English Girls school. Sporting strong filmmaking and editing, this film is unsettling and is a great new feature by writer-director Carol Morley, who definitely could have some interesting things in store for the future.

Lydia (Maisie Williams) and Abbie are best friends experiencing a sexual awakening at an English girls' school. Following a tragedy, a mysterious fainting epidemic threatens the stability of all involved. While the plot is relatively simple, its black comedy and disturbing imagery and music put this film high up on the list almost reminding me of a Lars von Trier film.

Presented in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds fine on DVD but could benefit to a high definition upgrade to highlight some details.

The only extra is a featurette called The Story of The Falling and a Theatrical Trailer.
