Strange Invaders is a fun extraterrestrial/conspiracy film starring Paul Le Mat and Nancy Allen that boasts fantastic practical special effects and nods to 1950s B Movie filmmaking. The Michael Laughlin film is brought to us in this great release from Twilight Time that is not to be missed for fans of alien fare.

Originally released in 1983, the film has some excellent political commentary and nods to pop culture (including a Steven Spielberg reference) and some cool cameos by Kenneth Tobey (The Thing) and June Lockhart (Lost in Space).

In 1958 alien invaders abduct the residents of Centerville, Ill., usurping the townspeople's bodies as their earthbound manifestations. Decades later, on a family visit to Centerville, New Yorker Margaret Newman (Diana Scarwid) mysteriously goes missing. Margaret's ex-husband, professor Charles Bigelow (Paul Le Mat), suspects there is more afoot than mere foul play and visits her home town only to have an extraterrestrial sighting himself. Back in New York, Charles visits a tabloid once he seems an image of the saw alien he saw in the small town. Soon he partners with intrepid tabloid reporter Betty Walker (Nancy Allen) and the two start to investigate.

Featuring aliens disguised as humans (a trait similar to the classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers), some creepy moments happen in the film including a scene where one peels off his face to reveal his alien face underneath and another scene where a female alien shoots a man in a bathroom. The film also stars Diana Scarwid, Michael Lerner, Louise Fletcher, Wallace Shawn, and Fiona Lewis.

Strange Invaders looks incredible on Blu-ray with a lush 1080p high definition transfer and 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio paired with a crystal clear, lossless English 1.0 Mono DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) track, the film looks and sounds better than ever thanks to the new transfer on this Blu-ray disc. Also on the disc are English SDH subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Special Features include...

Isolated Score Track by John Addison

Audio Commentary with Director Michael Laughlin and Writer William Condon

Original Theatrical Trailer

Though rated PG, the film features some fun practical effects and a story that's pretty interesting with a satisfying conclusion. If you're a fan of The X-Files, then I would suggest giving Strange Invaders a spin!
