The
Vatican Tapes (2015/Lionsgate Blu-ray)

The
Vatican Tapes (2015) is a PG-13 rated exorcism tale is a
well-made film from a production stance but ultimately feels very
unoriginal with some scenes that are too over the top to appease fans
of more realistic supernatural horror fair like The Omen or
The Exorcist. In many ways, this film reminds me of the
recent film The Lazarus Tapes, only that film didn't have the
religious angle but did have a young woman becoming possesses and
ultimately inheriting super powers that seem to take a page from the
X-Men films.
The
Mark Neveldine-directed release stars Michael Pena, Dougray Scott,
Djimon Hounsou, and Olivia Taylor Dudley.
After
a young woman (Dudley) begins to express increasingly erratic and
strange behaviors, her father (Scott) and boyfriend (John Patrick
Amedori), along with a priest (Pena) and two Vatican exorcists
(Hounsou and Peter Andersson), come to realize that she's been taken
over by an ancient satanic force.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and
a lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 track, the film looks and
sounds great on disc. There is also a digital copy included for your
portable device.
Extras
include a feature-length audio commentary track, Tale of the Tapes
featurette, Deleted and Extended Scenes.
