The

Luc
Besson's The
Fifth Element
is one of my favorite Science Fiction films and now thanks to the
Supreme Cinema Series and Sony, we get to experience it at home like
never before. Starring Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Gary
Oldman, the film is lighter than Blade
Runner
with the fun of Star
Wars
and intense action that blends both practical and digital special
effects seamlessly.
In
the 23rd century, a New York City cabbie, Korben Dallas (Bruce
Willis), finds the fate of the world in his hands when Leeloo (Milla
Jovovich) falls into his cab. As the embodiment of the fifth
element, Leeloo needs to combine with the other four to keep the
approaching Great Evil from destroying the
world. Together with Father Vito Cornelius (Ian Holm) and zany
broadcaster Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker), Dallas must race against time
and the wicked industrialist Zorg (Gary Oldman) to save humanity.
While
having been released prior a few times on Blu-ray alone, The
Fifth Element
is an essential Blu-ray for your home entertainment system,
specifically this edition which has been re-mastered in 4K High
Definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and a crystal
clear Dolby Atmos track that brings the film to life on the small
screen like never before. Also on this release are tracks in
English: lossless Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (48kHz, 24-bit, the version we got
to hear), French:
lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and
Spanish: lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps) and all are derived from
the
original Sony Dynamic Digital Sound (aka SDDS) 7.1 soundmaster so you
can hear how well-recorded this was and how great it sounded in its
best theatrical presentations during its original release.
There's also a digital copy included for your smart phone or tablet
if you watch movies on the go.
