Ferdinando
Baldi's 1975
film Get
Mean
is not your typical western, in more ways then one it is a great
comedy as the Stranger series would down and the Spaghetti Western
genre was also in its last years. Starring Tony Anthony, Lloyd
Battista, Raf Baldassarrem and Diana Lorys, the film is now available
in this highly collectible release by Blue Underground with new
extras never seen in The States. Watching this film reminded me a
little bit of the Tarantino style western mixed with a little Lone
Wolf and Cub
(the hero protecting an innocent) along with a grindhouse-style,
completely off kilter vibe with some of the characters.
When
an American cowboy known as The Stranger (Anthony) stumbles upon a
gypsy family in a wind-swept ghost town, they offer him a fortune to
escort a princess back to her home in Spain. But this silent
Stranger finds himself in over his head (and strung up by his feet)
when he gets caught in the middle of an epic battle involving
Vikings, the Moors, brutal barbarians, evil spirits, a raging bull,
and a diabolical Shakespeare-quoting hunchback. Tired of their
never-ending attempts to kill him, the cowboy arms himself to the
teeth with guns, dynamite and a special surprise. Now, it's the
Stranger's turn to GET MEAN!
Presented
in perfect 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of
2.35:1 (shot in Techniscope and originally issued in dye-transfer,
three-strip Technicolor overseas) and a DTS-HD 1.0 lossless Mono and
lossy Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono Audio (both tracks are English dubs),
the film looks and sounds better than ever (save the color not quite
achieving the Technicolor level in all scenes). Also on the disc are
audio tracks in English SDH, Spanish, and French Subtitles. The
second disc in the set is a DVD, which presents the film in standard
definition with a lossy Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono track that sounds
fine, but doesn't live up to the Blu-ray.
