Tyler
Shields'
Final Girl
(2015) is in many ways a softer re-imagining of I
Spit On Your Grave
or Last
House On The Left
in that the unlikely victim ends up getting the upper hand over the
killers, in the attempt of making a political statement of the sexes.
This film, starring the very talented Abigail Breslin (who just had
a great turn in the Schwarzenegger zombie drama Maggie
- reviewed elsewhere on the site) gives another fine performance
alongside co-stars Alexander Ludwig and Wes Bentley (Hunger
Games),
but unfortunately, the material isn't strong enough to deliver a film
worthy of a second viewing.
A
psychological thriller about a beautiful teen girl (Breslin) new to
town who is lured out to the woods by a group of senior boys to be
the victim in their final initiation. Taught by her trainer,
William, to be a lethal weapon, she turns the hunters into the hunted
with a level of perversity far beyond anything they could have ever
imagined.
The
presentation on the disc is up to up to par with the format with a
sharp 1080p high definition transfer at 1.78 X 1 and a powerful,
lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 track that doesn't disappoint.
At least these lower budgeted films (or direct to video as they used
to be called more frequently, though this was issued briefly in
theaters first) get superior transfers now that we are in the digital
high def age.
Extras
include The Making of Final Girl, a Photo Gallery with Commentary by
Tyler Shields and Logan Huffman 'Danny' Outtakes.
