On
June 29, 2002 during the FIFA World Cup, North Korean and South
Korean patrol boats clashed over the Northern Limit Line. This is
the story of Boat 357 and the men who served on her and patrolled the
Northern Limit Line.
In
Kim Hak-soon's Northern Limit Line (2015), this is the line
set by the United Nations between North and South Korean in the
Yellow Sea in 1953. Each side constantly patrols their boarders,
pushing it's limits to claim more area. The men of Patrol Boat 357
are cadets, husbands, friends, and fathers, as they serve their
country they are constantly reminded those they protect. While they
tirelessly patrol the boarder, they have to obey their commander's
harsh orders and follow the rules of engagement as they are shadowed
and hounded by North Korean patrol boat, but when they open fire all
past grudges and wrongs are forgotten as they become brother in
arms.
Based on a true story, this takes mainly the South
Korean view of the Battle of Yeonpyeong. It shows the personal lives
of the the sailors, their hopes, dreams and fears. As usual, the
military commanders care more about their own promotion than the
lives of their men, and it is only in the heat of battle are heroes
born through sacrifice and courage.
The
RED EPIC-shot 1080p 2.35 X 1 digital High Definition image is as good
as it is ever possibly going to look and that's good, even with all
the visual digital effects. The DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 mix is
also great, if not as spectacular, but it is not originally an 11.1
theatrical release (think Auro, Dolby Atmos, DTS: X or IMAX 12-track)
so its surround possibilities are slightly lesser than films
originally mixed that way. Otherwise, a solid combination. Extras
include trailers.
