Aloft
(2014/Sony Blu-ray)
Picture:

Aloft
boasts an impressive cast (Jennifer Connelly, Cillian Murphy and
Melanie Laurent) and beautiful cinematography but falls short in its
dramatic storytelling that is confusing and kind of vague. Directed
by Claudio Llosa, the film is full of interesting theories, but seems
to end, just when it starts to get really interesting. In short, the
film is about a mother who meets her son who she abandoned twenty
years earlier.
As
we follow a mother (Connelly) and her son (Murphy), we discover they
were in the past marred by an accident that tears them apart. The
mother will become a renowned artist and healer, and he will grow
into his own as a peculiar falconer who bears the marks of a double
absence. In the present, a young journalist (Laurent) will bring
about an encounter between the two that puts the meaning of life and
art into question, so that we may contemplate the possibility of
living life to its fullest, despite the uncertainties littering our
paths.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1
(shot on an Arri Alexa with HawkScope lenses) and an English lossless
DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 mix that sounds phenomenal throughout.
There are also lossless Portuguese and Spanish DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks
on the disc as well.
The
only extra on the disc is a trailer and some previews for other Sony
Classic titles.
