In
Yi'nan Diao's Black Coal, Thin Ice (2014), a series of
gruesome murders and body parts are found all over the country's
factories and have left the police baffled. Only a drunken detective
continues to search for the truth, his only lead is a beautiful
widow, all those who have known her have somehow either disappeared
or ended up dead. Who is the widow and what is her connection to all
these men?
This
is the age old story of the disgraced, divorced, drunk, violent cop
who ends up getting his entire team killed in was as a minor stake
out. Years later, the only thing he has left is to find and catch
the serial killer and solve the mystery no one else could solve, but
when he meets the mysterious beautiful widow he vows to protect her
from the 'killer'... but what if she already protected by a serial
killer stalker?
This movie somehow reminded me of The Usual
Suspects. As the story unfolds you discover what the story
behind each one of the characters, you wonder who is the real killer.
Between all the truth, lies and cover-ups you have to remember
before being either any character is a cop or a killer, they are all
human first.
The
1080p 1.85 X 1 image has these great nighttime shots with color
location light that looks great, then the rest of the daytime and
other night shots are nowhere nearly as good making for odd viewing,
while the DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mix has good moments
mixed with silent and underwhelming ones. Extras include only
trailers.
