Lost
After Dark is your typical slasher film in the vein of Hatchet
or Friday the 13th, featuring a cast of
unknowns. The film takes place in the '80s and tries to heavily
mimic the time period as it relates to horror which makes the film
predictable and the script in many instances to be pretty generic.
Much like the recent horror film Muck, the film has no real
character development.. pretty much everyone here is expendable,
which makes watching simply waiting for the next person to be off-ed.
If you're looking for a good 'drinking game' film then this may
prove to be a good candidate.
Set
in Spring Ball in 1984. Adrienne (Kendra Timmins, Midnight
Sun), a straight-A student, joins
her quarterback crush Sean (Justin Kelly, Maps
To The Stars) and some friends in
sneaking out of their high school dance for some unsupervised mayhem.
The teens' party plans hit a snag when they run out of gas on a
deserted road. They head out on foot and discover a rundown
farmhouse where they hope to find help, but instead find themselves
at the mercy of Junior Joad who is a cannibal killer from an urban
legend. After the brutal murder of one of their friends, the group's
quest for help becomes one of survival. Who will survive and what
will be left of them? (little Texas
Chainsaw humor for you...)
The
film is presented in high definition with an aspect ratio of 1.78:1
and a crisp, lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track that sounds crystal
clear. Though the film is dark, the color looks splendid on Blu-ray
and is surprisingly detailed. No extras on this release, though.
As
far as slasher films go, Lost After Dark isn't the best or
worst but more of a mimicking of better films that came before it.
What it needed was some B-movie star presence and a more memorable
killer to satisfy gore hounds.
