Midgets?
Check. Motorcycles, chains and guns? Check. Coherent Screenplay?
Oh.
Attempting
to be some sort of less artsy mix between Blue Valentine and a
B-movie, Cameron Casey's Appetites (2015) has familiar
characters and especially lousy leads as it runs through its hour and
forty five minute runtime like a ship without a captain.
The
synopsis is simple. Daisy is the all-American girl next door with a
hunger for true love and an appetite for murder. Then one day, Daisy
meets the man of her dreams, John Doe, only to discover that his own
lust for killing might make her his next victim.
The
only sympathetic character in the film is Daisy's brother Bubba who
can only talk and mutter after being horribly disfigured which tells
you something. There are several bad musical numbers where John Doe
is singing to Daisy in her daydreams that are laughably bad as is
their love for one another where they can't decide whether to slap
and beat each other up or make out passionately. In the end, it's
all for not though, as John Doe shows his true dumb side leading to a
painfully long and drawn out third act.
The
ending is one of the most half assed that I've ever seen in recent
memory. Though the film is trying to be some sort of drama, it
immediately goes into a blooper reel that shows how unorganized and
silly the production was.
Presented
in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track,
the presentation here is standard and nothing special. The complete
lack of extras, and even a audio/subtitle option is also strange for
a new release.
Skip
this one.
