Candye Kane (Ohne
Filter series)

It is always nice to hear something different, but
sometimes you get disappointed. We have
covered many episodes of the German concert TV series Ohne Filter, but the
April 2, 1997 segment with Candye Kane is the poorest to date. The blues vocalist tries to be raw so much,
that she gets into overkill pretty quickly.
The songs are:
1) Sue’s
Boogie
2) Great
Big Woman
3) Love ‘em
& Forgive ‘em
4) Babylon
Bogie
5) I Said
No!
6) In Love
With A Girl
7) These
Boots Are Made For Walkin’
8) It
Should Be Rainin’
9) The Lord
Was A Woman
10) All You Can Eat…
11) It Won’t Be Long
12) unidentified ditty explicit about intercourse
It is fine for someone to be sexual, including people who
are big, but Miss Kane goes overboard with her sexual single-entendres so early
that The Village People and Eminem would quickly blush, while others might just
vomit. She has some vocal talent, but
she just keeps talking about all the ways she wants to have sex and what a
“dish” she is. On track 10, I wondered
what Peter Greenaway would have thought.
All I knew is I could not believe how redundant this was. It was like some joke or that she was some
secret XXX industry star disguised as a real artist. You can skip this one, unless you are in the mood for
degeneration.
The full frame 1.33 X 1 PAL video is in good shape for its
age, while the PCM 2.0 stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes are about even. As usual, this disc includes a biography on
the performer, plus the
same engineer interview, web link, producer interview, and guide to many other
Ohne Filter concerts on DVD. Look for
the better concerts elsewhere on this site.
