At
the end of the Roman Empire, Rome is in decline and petty
Romans/Primas schemes around who is to be the next Emperor. Urbina
seeks to put her spoiled son Cassius as the next Emperor with the
aide of General Maximus, but General Maximus sees Cassius for what he
truly is and has plans of his own...
In
David Kocar & Petr Kubik's Lost Legion (2014), General
Maximus is more than aware Rome is failing and yet the Romans
continue to their cruel ways while still calling themselves a
republic (they just kill who they don't like and leave no one around
to argue with them). As they continue to pretend how great being a
'Roman' citizen is the only thing they truly care about who can they
screw over next and who is lining their own wallets. Taranis learns
fist hand about Roman betrayal, seeking protection for him, his men
and his clan only to find his reward for loyalty was betrayal, his
wife sold to another man, and him framed in order to help General
Maximus ascend the throne.
This
was like a poor man's version of Russel Crowe's Gladiator,
mixed with the cable TV series Rome, seems like all 'Roman'
action films now are about sex, nudity, and death fights. But it
does highlight why the Roman Empire collapsed, caring about only
their own 'greatness' the system failed because of greed, corruption
and inequality, after everything Roman's did to others it is hardly a
surprise others would seek their downfall.
The
stylized, anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image looks as good ass it
could in the firmat, but the lossy Dolby Digital mix is not as rich,
good or consistent. The only extra is a trailer.
