Great Entertainers: The Show Stoppers
Picture: C-
Sound: D Extras: D Songs: C+
The Koch/Passport series of budget music titles have been
pretty interesting, even when they have had passable sound and picture. Great Entertainers: The Show Stoppers
would seem like a great opportunity to promote the line with samplings of most
of the performers they offer and a few others they do not. Instead, the sound quality is unacceptable
and the picture is not much better.
That’s tragic, as it offers this lineup:
1)
Bing Crosby – Pennies From Heaven
2)
Eddie Fisher – Anytime
3)
Liberace – Chinatown
4)
Frank Sinatra – Angel Eyes
5)
Nat King Cole – Unforgettable
6)
Perry Como – Dear Hearts & Gentle People
7)
Dean Martin – That’s Amore
8)
Sammy Davis, Jr. – Hey There
9)
Judy Garland – Somewhere Over The Rainbow
10)
Rosemary Clooney –
Just You, Just Me
11)
Lena Horne
– From This Moment On
12)
Dinah Shore – I’ve
Got A Crush On You
13)
Connie Francis – I’m
Sitting On Top Of The World
14)
Patti Page
– What Now My Love
15)
Barbra Streisand –
Cry Me A River
16)
Connie
Stevens – Now That You’ve Gone Away
You can check elsewhere on this site to see which of these
artists have complete DVDs form their release line, with some of them likely to
be released down the line, but the full frame black and white picture is
unusually lousy and the Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is horrid. Why?
It makes no sense. This feels
more like the damaged collection and I have seen and heard some of these clips
elsewhere look and sound much better, even on other DVDs in their own series. So, it’s a dud and there are no extras.
