Paul
Bart: Mall Cop 2
(2015) is an easy target for critics. Sure, it means well but
there's a thin line here between cash grab and just the necessity of
the thing. With a plot that falls apart the longer it runs on
screen, Paul
Blart 2
once again stars Kevin James and Raini Rodriguez only this time he's
in Vegas for a 'Mall Cop' meeting. I can see the studio executive
meeting now, 'okay, so we have to take Paul out of the mall this
time.'
Some
parts of this film are so bad, they're funny such as scenes where
Paul simply trips over a raised carpet or when he fights an exotic
bird with his bare hands. He gets a Supermodel Spy to fall for him
by not letting her get a word in, or when he punches an Elderly Hotel
Worker in the face thinking she was a bad guy. While other scenes,
including the last fifteen minutes of the film, borderlines on
'painful' to sit through.
Six
years after he saved the day at his beloved New Jersey shopping mall,
security guard Paul Blart (Kevin James) is taking a well-deserved
vacation. In recognition for his hard work, he's won an
all-expenses-paid trip to a security convention in Las Vegas, and
decides to take his teenage daughter, Maya (Raini Rodriguez), with
him. True to form, however, Paul just can't relax and take it easy,
so when he uncovers a criminal threat to the hotel, he springs into
action.
To
be honest, being an innocent comedy there is a lot of slamming
against the 'fat' community here and some exhausted potty humor. I
admittedly laughed at some of the earlier scenes but had so many
moments towards the end where I just scratched my head and asked
myself why? If you see the scene where he dances with an exotic
dance group on stage in Vegas and somehow blends in without security
getting to him in time, you will agree. You know a movie is bad when
you get happy to see him on a Segway again.
The
film is presented in 1080p high definition with a 1.85:1 widescreen
aspect ratio and a lossless English 5.1 DTS-HD MA (Master Audio)
track. There are additional tracks in Spanish, Thai, French and
subtitles. There's also DVD version of the film included as well
which is presented in standard definition with a lossy Dolby Digital
5.1 track which pushes the boundaries of the format, but doesn't live
up to Blu-ray quality of course in its softness throughout.

How
to Make a Movie
Unless
you are an avid Kevin James fan or under the age of fourteen, I think
you can safely skip this one and live your life at the same pace.
