Duck
Dynasty: Season 7 (2015/A&E DVDs)

Returning
for its seventh season, soon to be an eighth, Duck Dynasty
returns to DVD with the complete Season 7 that is a must for
fans of the series. All hilarious ten episodes are mastered in
standard definition for this DVD edition, span two discs, and start
with a one hour season premiere. For those who aren't familiar with
the show, basically the show portrays the lives of the Robertson
family, who became wealthy from their family-operated business, Duck
Commander. The Louisiana-based business makes products for duck
hunters, most notably being the duck call device called Duck
Commander. The Robertson men - brothers Phil and Si, and Phil's
sons Jase, Willie, and Jep - are known for their long beards and
their Christian views. The family was previously featured on the
series Benelli Presents Duck Commander and its spin-off Buck
Commander, which still airs on the Outdoor Channel. Nobody quite
expected the show to become such a huge success, with all sorts of
promotional tie-ins and products. It seems though now that the show
is showing some signs of slowing down, with the products no longer
being as prevalent as they were when the show first aired.
Episodes
include the one hour season premiere of Glory Is the Reward of
Mallard, followed by Good Night and Good Duck, Quack in the
Saddle, A Home for the Holidays, The Cannonball Runs, Mo Math, Mo
Problems, Coop! There It Is, Friday Afternoon Lights, Master and Duck
Commander, and Sweet Home Louisiana. The show is pretty
funny despite some of its 'on the noise humor' and some moments that
feel pretty staged. Ultimately, the lives of this family are slave
to the reality TV show formula, but it works better here than other
shows with the humor outweighing the drama.
The
season stars when Willie and the crew travel to Scotland, but while
on a bus tour to reawaken their Scottish roots, will they uncover
more than expected? Jase tries his hand at the Highland Games, while
Jep and Jessica are interrupted by Uncle Si during a romantic
rendezvous. Back home, Willie kicks into gear as assistant football
coach on Lil' Will's team, while Mark Ballas (Dancing with the
Stars) pays a visit to dance partner Sadie and gets Willie and
Kay out on the dance floor. What will happen when Si, Kay, and Phil
offer their journalistic expertise as the family takes over a local
TV show during a special holiday spectacle? The Christmas love
continues when the family lends a helping hand to a longtime Duck
Commander employee's mom in need.
Presented
in standard definition in anamorphic 16 X 9/1.78 X 1 widescreen and a
lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track, the show looks about as good as
disc as it does on television. Obviously, a Blu-ray edition would
master the picture and capture the audio better but the question of
necessity for a show like this begs the reasoning for the upgrade.
Total run time is 233 minutes.
Only
extra being 20 minutes of special features not seen on TV, that's not
much. All in all a must for the Duck Dynasty fan in your
life. For the rest of us, the show is mindless entertainment.
