It
is the dark ages and English Lords have enslaved the Saxons of the
land, ruling through fear and death. A lone stranger (Stanley
Webber) walks into the village and saves a girl from being raped.
After gaining the people's trust, the villagers decide to make him
their leader, the stranger then begins a peasant rebellion against
their English Lords. But secretly, the stranger hides a dark secret
from his past, but is he willing to sacrifice everything for the sake
of his vengeance?
In
Jim Weedon's Sword Of Vengeance (2015), a former prince vows
revenge after witnessing the murder of his father by his uncle.
After escaping slavery and reaching manhood, he trains himself and
the Saxon farmers how to fight against knights on horseback and
armored men. While the villagers and farmers know nothing of his
past, they fight for their freedom, but will he be willing to
sacrifice their lives for his personal revenge?
This
film was like watching Snyder's 300 mixed with Robin Hood,
except with an army of one against the tyranny of the English. While
the battles were bloody and gritty everything had a gray hue, or
filtered through gray lens giving it a unique stylized and mood, as
if it was literally the 'dark ages'. This is a short 87 minutes, but
genre fans should enjoy it.
The
1080p 2.35 X 1 digital High Definition shoot is a digital one and
plays back just fine for the chosen style, consistent in it and all,
but the DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 mix is a mixed bag of the tracks
kicking in for action sequences, then being unimpressive otherwise.
Extras include interviews with director and producer, behind the
scenes, and trailers.
