Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) return
and are forced to reopen the Sandbrook case with the murder of 2
girls and the murder case of an 11-year-old boy, which Miller's
husband on trial for. Even with all the evidence and the suspect in
custody, Hardy and Miller must ferret out the truth between all the
secrets, affairs and lies. In Broadchurch:
The Complete Second Season
(2014), the trial hangs on the edge of a knife, the slightest clue
could sway the jury, but even worst they must not only deal with an
angry mob but crooked barristers who would not only destroy the
evidence, also assault their witnesses and seek to ruin their
reputations.
Alec
Hardy is a disgraced detective and has been called the worst
detective in all of England, he and his partner have been accused of
police brutality, not following police procedures and even having an
affair with each other and has abandoned by their colleagues. In
Season
Two,
they faces even a greater challenge, the criminal justice system
itself. "Innocent until proven guilty" each piece of
evidence/witness they have collected is torn to shreds and the
smallest hint of lie can dismiss the testimony of a witness. Their
opposing barristers uses tactics such as 'reasonable doubt' and not
following 'proper procedures' and terrorizes victims in order to
coerce what they want to hear.
When
watching this series you have to keep in mind what is true and what
is a lie and when to recognize a red herring. As well, you would
think the Criminal Justice System was trying to keep criminals free.
How far would you go for justice? Should police be allowed to use
force? Or are they above the rules? This series addresses modern
police issues such as police brutality and discrimination, but also
should make you ask what would police be like if they didn't use
force or break rules? Suspects would have time to destroy evidence
or even get away and more would-be-murderers would walk free.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is a fine HD shoot and seems
to have improved from the debut season, but the lossy Dolby Digital
2.0 Stereo is certainly still not spectacular and a little too quiet
and limited for its own good. Extras include Making Of the show
featurette, interviews with cast and crew, behind and deleted scenes,
and trailers.
