Mama's
Family,
a spinoff sitcom of The
Carol Burnett Show,
is one of my favorite sitcoms of all time for reasons I'm still not
sure of. It's so genuine to me and showcases simple comedy amongst a
dysfunctional redneck family. Growing up in West Virginia, my
grandmother used to always watch this show with us on her old black
and white television (that was resting on top of a non working
television) and it always brings back warm memories watching it.
Season
Five
has been covered in a prior review (elsewhere on this site), but here
we get to see Mama's six favorite handpicked episodes for those that
don't want to binge watch. Mama's
Family
is timeless television and continues to make me laugh every time with
dead on squabbling hilarity over the most mundane of matters. Anyone
with a family can relate!
This
a highlight disc of six classic episodes from Season
Five
including
The Really Loud Family, Naomi's New Position, Found Money, Mama's
Layaway Plan, Mama in One, and Dependence Day
In
these hand-selected episodes, viewers will witness Bubba getting a
video camera and his footage ending up (edited heavily) on Raytown TV
to hilarious results, an ATM that spits out loads of cash for Mama
leaving her with a moral dilemma, and how a weekend alone can allow
one to put their own life in perspective.
The
show has never looked better than it does here on DVD with a standard
definition image that captures the original 4:3/1.33 X 1 aspect ratio
of the original television broadcast. The sound is fine with a
simple, lossy Dolby 2.0 Stereo benefitting from improving TV audio
standards of the time, with a surround mix in Pro Logic mode (or its
variants).
No
extras are on this release.
If
you aren't willing to shell out the cash for the complete season five
then this truly is a collection of the best episodes of the season.
I would suggest getting the full seasons but you can never have too
much Mama's
Family!
