Evil
has a new form.
Final
Prayer is an interesting mix of usual supernatural plot retreads
mixed with found footage that ends up being more effective than you
might think. Originally titled The Borderlands, this 89
minute horror/mystery follows a team of Vatican investigators
descends upon a church in a remote area to demystify the unusual
happenings, but what they discover is more disturbing than they had
first imagined.
Think
Ghost Hunters, only here they actually find something. The
film doesn't quite pick up until they figure out that there is a
passageway underneath the church and that is where things start to
get a little hair raising. It reminded me a bit of Frankenstein's
Army in that they find this creepy place and are forced to walk
through it while different ghouls pop out. Sounds almost like a
haunted attraction tour, right?
At
any rate, Elliot Goldner (the writer/director) has created something
that's not necessarily going to be remembered for years to come, but
that is an interesting low budget fright fest nonetheless that will
probably make the audience jump a few times.
The
presentation on the disc is standard for DVD with a standard
definition transfer and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track that is loud
and clear when it needs to be a effective. There's are also, of
course, English and Spanish subtitles. As with any DVD release, a
Blu-ray upgrade would be better, but with this being found footage,
it wouldn't be too much of a benefit.
Extras
include a Behind the Scenes featurette and a Trailer Gallery.
