Wild
Card (2015/Lionsgate Blu-ray)

Wild
Card throws a bunch of C list actors in a blender and hits go
with the likes of Jason Statham, Michael Angarano, Dominik
Garcia-Lorido, Sofia Vergara, Milo Ventimiglia, Hope Davis, Anne
Heche, Jason Alexander, and Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci.
Wondering why you haven't heard of it til now? The film was a huge
flop and only brought back $3,200 out of a budget of $30 Million!
The
film is actually a remake of a Burt Reynolds film, 1986's Heat,
not to be confused with the Michael Mann film. Directed by the man
responsible for one of the worst films of all time, Tomb Raider:
Cradle of Life and one of those god awful Expendables
films, Simon West the film looks slick and in a way mimics Guy
Ritchie's style in a way. It follows the story of Nick Wild is a
recovering gambling addict, who takes odd jobs in Las Vegas to
support his addiction. He accepts a job by self-made millionaire
Cyrus Kinnick (Michael Angarano), to show him around Vegas and
provide him with protection while he gambles.
While
eating at a diner, the waitress gives Nick a note from Holly (Dominik
Garcia-Lorido) - who asks him to stop by her house. At her house,
Holly explains to Nick that she had a date the previous night at 'The
Golden Nugget'. After the date, she was brutally raped and beaten by
three unknown men in their hotel room. Holly tells Nick that she
wants him to find out who they are so that she can sue them, though
unbeknownst to Nick, she plans to take revenge. The plot gets
crazier Holly steals 50 Grand from DeMarco and her and Nick split for
Vegas. Of course, his riches don't last for long when he decides to
gamble again and ends up in the fans of a mob in Las Vegas. I won't
spoil the end for you but it gets pretty predictable.
Picture
and sound on the disc look great with a 1080p 2.40 X 1 digital high
definition transfer and a powerful English DTS-HD MA 5.1 track.
Lionsgate always does a great job with its high def discs so this is
not a surprise. Extras include a Commentary, Script Vignette,
and Original Sin: Las Vegas and the Characters of Wild Card.
