Miranda
Cosgrove (School of Rock) gives a decent performance in this
mediocre horror film, Intruders, that explores ideas from
stronger creepy ghost movies like The Stir of Echoes, What
Lies Beneath, with a splash of Jennifer Lawrence's House At
The End Of The Street from 2012. Cosgrove plays a grieving young
woman who discovers that her family's new home may hide a secret
connection to a young girl's disappearance in connection with some
creepy neighbors that live across the street.
Co-stars
are the exceptional Tom Sizemore, Daniel Logue, Austin Butler,
Jenessa Grant, and Michael Luckette, who are all fine in the film,
but none of which really stand out.
20-year-old
Rose moves into a new home following her mother's tragic death.
Depressive grief turns to oppressive terror when a severed doll head
starts randomly appearing throughout the house in between bouts of
bumps in the night and discoveries of hidden rooms. Once she learns
that the previous owner disappeared mysteriously, with a runaway
tenant (who happens to be the same age as Rose) and weirdo son also
missing, Rose comes to believe that a paranormal presence is leading
her to the truth behind the vanishings. Although the steely-eyed
stare of next-door neighbor Tom Sizemore warns Rose that the real
danger might not be so supernatural in nature.
All
in all, the film feels very been there, done that but I just enjoyed
The Skeleton Key with Kate Hudson so much more and essentially
this is that same movie only with a younger main character. That
being said, sound and picture on the disc is standard for the DVD
format with a standard definition transfer and a lossy Dolby Digital
5.1 track, but plays well enough for the format
Extras
include Two Behind The Scenes Featurettes.
