Free Fall (2014/Anchor Bay Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B Extras: C- Film: C

The Only Way Out Is Down.

Free Fall is a generic action thriller in the vein of Die Hard, Panic Room, and countless others where the hero is trapped in an elevator or an enclosed area away from the evil villain that wishes to thwart him or her in an attempt to retrieve some type of MacGuffin.

In this case, it's a ravishing brunette named Jane Porter (Sarah Butler of the I Spit On Your Grave remake) who works for a top corporate company in a huge skyscraper that is rattled when one of her Executive Coworkers falls to his death from high above and face first into a parked car. Ouch.

Upon investigating his office for personal affects to give his family, Jane discovers a flash drive taped under his desk that reveals proof of embezzlement happening within the company that could prove disastrous if hidden for too long. The owner of that corporate company she works for by the way is the great Malcolm McDowell - who is the highlight of the film (and barely in it).

After telling her balding co-worker Ian Gomez (Cougar Town) about the hidden flash drive, he soon calls in his crisis manager (D.B. Sweeney) who will kill poor old Jane Porter if necessary to keep the embezzlement a secret. Once he realizes that Jane isn't going to be easy to kill and she traps herself in an elevator where he can't get to her, Sweeney ends up killing security guards and others in angry fits until he turns full psycho and calls the elevator repair service to open a hatch to get to her. Can Jane escape the clutches of this mad man?

Directed by Malek Akkad and brought to you by the producers of Final Destination and the Halloween sequels, Free Fall isn't exactly a total waste of time but just isn't really original enough to stand the test of time. It is shot flat but nicely in 1080p 2.35 X 1 high definition and sports a decent Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless sound mix that isn't bad at all on Anchor Bay's part.

Extras are just a featurette - Free Fall: Behind The Scenes.
