It's
been 75 years since WWII. The History Channel takes a look back in
time, but not though the eyes of historians but through the eyes of
the soldiers who survived through it in 75
Years Of WWII.
D-Day, one of the largest invasion forces that ever occurred in
history, how and where the soldiers landed, their objectives, the
cost of lives, what went wrong and the courage of those who went
forward to secure an American victory. The Battle of Bloody Santa
Cruz retells of lost of the USS Hornet and how the Enterprise
survived and eventually lead to the biggest naval battle with the
Japanese and US navel fleets. And finally this program takes a look
into Ultimate WWII weapons that changed the course of war and modern
warfare.
There
are soldiers who would have said differently, that history is written
by the survivors. While generals, leaders would say "for
victory!", "for honor!", "for glory!", or
"for home and country!"... soldiers who were fighting in
the field or drowning at sea where just trying to survive. They
remember those who were their brothers and those that fell behind,
and that they
were the lucky ones. In their war, the war was all around them, air,
sea and land, and if there was a hell on Earth they were in it.
There were first person stories from the few soldiers that survived
the first landing in Normandy, pilots and gunners that fought and
protected the Enterprise, as they shared their version of the story.
History
documentary take a first hand account from survivors or WWII,
soldiers, paratroopers, pilots, marines and even one German trooper.
Along with archived footage, 3-D animation recreation, they show the
battle tactics, strategies, struggles, loses and cost for victory.
And show what the difference between heroes in the stories and real
life are, so that we would never forget those men who gave the last
full measure of devotion.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image and lossy Dolby Digital 2.0
sound are average, but watchable. There are no extras.
