Juno
Mak's Rigor Mortis (2013) is an insane Hong Kong horror film
and is a thrill ride from beginning to end fusing supernatural horror
elements, martial arts, and stylish digital effects that tell the
story which is an homage to classic Chinese Vampire movies,
especially the film series Mr. Vampire, and is directed by
acclaimed filmmaker Juno Mak and co-produced by Horror Director
Takahi Shimizu. This film reminds me a lot of the film 1408
which came out a few years ago in that it was also about a haunted
room where all kinds of strange supernatural things happen.
The
film is visually spectacular starting with haunting desaturated tones
leading us into beautiful color sequences. Our lead - a washed up
actor walks up to the apartment building that will seal his fate.
Many of the characters that he meets give him the background on the
building and tell him that the room he is staying in is haunted by a
woman who hung herself after being raped. He doesn't care though as
he plans on committing suicide himself. Saved by an odd neighbor,
our lead soon encounters decadent spirits, zombies, ghost hunters,
and souls of the undead are running amuck throughout the building.
Well
Go USA has done a fantastic job with the 1080p high definition
transfer in capturing the original 2.35 X 1 widescreen image, mixing
PAL video with a RED EPIC camera. The audio is also spectacular in
lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 and a lossy Dolby 5.1
audio track. There is a dubbed English language track as well as the
original Cantonese audio track with English subtitles.
Sadly,
the only feature on the disc is a Trailer.
