Art Of Fred Gambino: Dark Shepherd
(2014/Titan Books/Hardcover)
Book:
A-
The
Art of Fred Gambino
is a beautiful, large, hardcover art book featuring the work of a
very talented Sci-Fi artist. The book collects Mr. Gambino's artwork
in glorious fashion featuring concept art, illustrations, paintings,
book covers and sketches. The highlight of the book is Fred's
personal screenplay project Dark Shepherd and features excerpts from
his fantastic screenplay. This book is a must have for fellow lovers
of conceptual art and military science fiction art.
The
160 page hardcover book features a foreword
by collaborator John A Davis - who directed Jimmy
Neutron: Boy Genius
and The
Ant Bully
and tells of his collaboration with the artist and his appreciation
for his work. Fred Gambino himself follows with an introduction
that tells us a little about his background as an artist for the past
fifteen years and guides us through the book.
Pages
10-50 are the short screenplay for Shepard's personal project Dark
Shepard,
followed by 18 pages of conceptual art for the script accompanied
with breathtaking images to accompany. Pages 68-83 are dedicated to
Fred's publishing works. Pages 84-93 focus on Battletech
and Mechwarrior.
Pages 94-109 feature some incredible Speedpaints
and More that
show us some of the artist's advertising and commissions including
some the popular art for the Bioshock
video game, Star
Wars Visions,
and a very cool album cover for the band Operahouse.
Pages 110-115 feature Project
X that
transports us to a unique cyberworld and pages 116-127 showcase some
of his work on the Weinstein Brothers' film Escape
From Planet Earth.
128-137 are Firebreather
followed by
Robo Dragons, Alienology,
and finally Starbeast.
What
Gambino does best is detailed alien landscapes that feel extremely
cinematic and otherworldly. This book is really fantastic and great
title to add to your collection! Titan Books did a great job with
this release - highly recommended!
