Laurel
has always been living in the shadow of her twin sister Audrey, but
after a tragic car accident, she is mistaken as the survivor as her
twin sister. She then decides to start over and live her life as her
sister in the big city. There in the city she learns what it means
to be popular, pretty and attractive... and maybe even find a bit of
love.
In
Jenee LeMarque's The Pretty One (2013), Laurel and Audrey (Zoe
Kazan) are identical twins, though they look the same Laurel has
always been the quiet one, the wallflower, the unpopular girl that no
guy would ask out. Audrey on the other hand lives in the big city,
popular, smart, attractive and always considered the better of the
two girls. After the accident and mistaken for dead, Laurel decides
to take her sister's place, to be more assertive, confident, but as
she tries to fill her sister's dress (and shoes) she fools everyone
but herself and she learns being confident isn't about copying
someone else, but being true to yourself.
When
being identical twins you can hardly not compare one twin to the
other. As the main character assumes her sister place, the only
difference between them is attitude, but as she transforms from geek
girl to popular girl, she learns being popular isn't all what it cuts
out to be with the lies and affairs. Ron Livingston, Jake Johnson
and Frances Shaw also star.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is not bad, but the lossy is
on the quiet side and that does not always work. Extras include
visual effects of the film.
