Kolima's
grandfather Kuzya (John Malkovich) the leader of the Siberian
criminal underworld, they follow a strict code of honor. Steal from
only the rich, police and the corrupt, protect their people and never
do drugs. In a town made up of criminals, the broken and the fallen,
it is considered the lowest level of humanity and the worst place to
live. Young Kolima (Arnas Fedaravicius) grows up learning the code,
and the honor among thieves. Kolima is a young boy growing up in the
thieves den in final days of Russia in Gabriele Salvatores' Deadly
Code (2013).
He
and his friends grow up in segregated communities, life is tough but
as long as a person follows the code people can survive.
Years later, grown up Kolima is reunited with Gagarin (Vilius
Tumalavicius), a childhood friend, but Gagarin has given up the code.
And when he violates a girl and the community rules, Kolima has has
no choice but to bring justice to Gagarin.
This
was a very interesting film into the cultural aspects of the poorest
communities in the final days of Russia, back when convicts were
forced to move to communities/shanty towns if they have a record,
there society forms a different set of rules. It is the story of two
young boys who's lives went on opposite paths... and what happens
when one loses their honor. Peter Stormare also stars.
Too
bad the anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image and lossy Dolby
Digital sound were weak throughout. Extras include a Making Of
featurette and trailer gallery.
