In
1965, during the Vietnam War a group of Special Forces goes rogue.
After capturing a North Vietnamese bunker they continue to fortify
and commit acts of terror in the name of patriotism, that anything is
worth the war against America, even killing one's own troops or
superior. A group of US soldiers are sent in to find out what
happened to these Special Forces, but only one makes it out to tell
the story in Joe Black's The Bunker (2013).
This
group goes rogue after their Captain goes power mad and develops a
God complex, he and his troops kill any and all Vietnamese, including
civilians, collecting their fingers as trophies. Any soldiers that
question their actions is considered 'weak' and suffers the same
fate. As another squad is sent in to find a North Vietnamese
operative, they become targets of the Special Forces because they are
seen as traitors to the cause, and only one survives to tell
the tale. But when he is sent back, the administrations deny the
existence of the rogue squad.
If
Rambo was allegedly against how United States treated Vietnam
Vets, then this Ken Shamrock-led starer showed why Vietnam Vets were
so hated when returning from the war. While not all American
soldiers commit war crimes, there are acts murder, torture and rape,
plus enough news leaks back to America that US soldiers were
torturing and killing innocents. Problem was that American soldiers
and leaders couldn't tell friend from foe, and assumed all Vietnamese
were communist spies, and those who were in command didn't care and
covered up their mistakes. Any objection to your orders could get
label you as a communist and get you killed by your own troops. No
new ground broken here either.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is awful and the lossy Dolby
Digital sound is very disappointing. There are no extras.
