A
backwater community of hillbillies' lives revolve around worshiping
the Pit, feeding it sacrifices. Whenever a potter makes a face on
the jug, means the Pit is calling for a blood sacrifice, in return
the pit keeps the community healthy and safe. A pregnant young girl,
Ada discovers she is the next one to be sacrificed to the Pit and
tries to hide and run. When denied, the pit becomes a monster and
kills anyone until the sacrifice is given in Chad Crawford Kinkle's
Jug Face (2013).
Young
Ada then discovers that she is pregnant with her brother's baby and
is promised to a man she doesn't want to marry. Worse, she also
finds out the potter has recently made a jug face of her, so she
decides to hide the jug before anyone else realizes it. Soon the Pit
is angered and begins preying on each one of the community members
until it gets what is wants. Ada's only guide is a boy spirit called
the Shunned, somebody who dared to deny the Pit and is forced to walk
the after life forever.
This
was a simple horror story, the monster and the pit wasn't nearly as
scary as the community that followed it. A mob mentality is one of
the worst things humans ever invented, specially if it meant someone
had to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the community. It was
also not as scary because all the rules were explained up front and
there was a no way to break the curse.
The
1080p 2.35 X 1 digital High Definition image was shot in HD on an
Arri Alexa and looks pretty good throughout despite style choices
that downgrade the image transfer on the Blu-ray, while the
anamorphically
enhanced DVD version is much softer and cannot resolve certain fine
detail. The sound in both formats and codecs are on the weak side
and have very little different about them, so they both disappoint.
Extras
include story behind Jug Face, Organ Grinder short film, and trailer.
