When a
world class pianist is found dead, his body brutally beaten and mutilated, the
police searches for the celebrity's killer (Nick Cheung); it just so happens their
prime suspect is a man who just recently finished a 20 year jail sentence for
raping and killing the daughter of the pianist 20 years earlier. The police believes his is back to finish the
job, but only Detective Lam (Simon Yam) believes there is more to the case than
rape and murder. As he and police
searches for the former inmate and the truth, a young woman bears a secret that
even she doesn't know, is she the next target or is she a victim? The truth of
the case may change everything...
In Chow
Hin Yeung Roy’s Nightfall, the
battle-hardened mute man is released after 20 years prison, imprisoned for a
murder he didn't commit he stalks the very family that sent him to jail, and
when the family head is found dead, he becomes the prime suspect. He is always one step ahead of the police,
escaping capture... but the strange thing is he's not trying to hide and leaves
clues behind pointing to him. As
Detective Lam spends his overtime searching for this killer, neglecting his own
family, he realized they may have imprisoned an innocent man for 20 years. This starts to become a possibility when they
discover the pianist who was murdered was an abusive and incestuous father, and
the 'killer' was the fiancé of the girl murdered those two decades earlier ago
and true father to the current young girl in the family; he wasn't stalking
her, he was protecting her. Even after that
time period, a father devotion to his family is to protect them, even die for
them, even if it means becoming an enemy of the state and a scapegoat for the
police.
This was
an excellent film, creates a story of innocent man who was wrongly jailed. At first you think he is just a serial
rapist/killer being released and he's going to commit another crime. To say
anything more will ruin what makes this somewhat familiar scenario work, but it
was a complex and interesting story.
The 1080p
digital High Definition image was shot on the RED ONE MX and has a fine look
throughout that is impressive for the new HD format, while the DTS-HD MA (Master
Audio) 5.1 lossless mix is consistent and active throughout making the playback
a real pleasure. Extras include a Making
Of the film featurette and trailers.
