Digimon - Season One, Vol Two + Season Two (Flatiron DVD Sets)

Picture: B-     Sound: C     Extras: D/A     Episodes: B+/A-

Join Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, and T.K. as they journey to save the Digital World.  Teaming up with their partners, Digimons the fight against the evil Digimon, Myotismon and his minions as they fight forward, protect the innocent, and the real world they search for the crests evolve their Digimons to their Champion forms.  When Myotismon journeys to the real world to find and stop the eighth Digidestined child from fulfilling the prophecy, the world's government, armies, and adults are powerless to stop Myotismon, so it is up to the kids to not only save the Digi world but now the real world as well in the second half of the first season of the show now on DVD.

Myotismon has now come into the real world and taken over the city in attempt to search for the last Digidestined, but it turns out Tai's little sister, Kari is the eighth and final Digidestined, and now they have to find her crest and Digimon before it is too late.  The kids have their hands full with not only stopping the Digimon coming into the real world, saving the humans and people, but explaining to their parents that they are the Digidestined and the only ones that can save the world.  Even if all their Digimon evolve to their champion forms, is it enough to stop Myotismon who has evolved into an ultimate form?

This is a PG children’s series, good for all kids.  The themes are usually courage, friendship, knowledge, hope, reliability and love, virtues that Asian culture values. Most of time their characters/Digimon evolve just in time to save the day, and as long as you don't give up good will always somehow win over evil.

By the next season, it has been 3 years since the Digidestined have saved the Digi world and the real world, but there is now a new threat: the mysterious (and self proclaimed) Digimon Emperor!  He has enslaved the Digimon with his Dark Rings and Control Spires and somehow made it impossible for regular Digievolution.  A new generation of Digidestined now appear to fight and search for Digi Eggs and Armor to evolve their Digimons, but their lies a deeper and darker evil behind it all, and once again real world is threatened and in need of the Digidestined.

With not only new Digievolutions and devices, new enemies appear to stop the new Digidestined, the Digimon Emperor and evil Ultimate Digimons.  Fortunately, they are not alone this time, the previous Digidestined lend their guiding hand and their experiences to the new Digidestined, but turns out the evil Digimon Emperor is not a Digimon, but a human child who been corrupted by evil.  After fighting and defeating him for half the series, turns out he is also a Digidestined and was controlled by the evil Ultimate Digimons, but there are even more twists in sores that keeps this series going.

Season Two added new characters, Digimon, evolutions and 50 episodes of fun.  Once again it is up to the children/Digidestined to save the world, the plot thickens each time they defeat bad guys, it always turns out they were controlled by an even more power bad guy, in the end the true evil was the villain from the first season, who was trying to reincarnate himself and take over the world (again).  Perhaps the reason only kids can become Digidestined is because they are innocent and have a pure heart.

The picture is as good as it is going to get, as well as the lossy Dolby Digital sound.  Extras include a character guide booklet, gallery of Digimon sketches for the Season Two set.
