Misfits – Season 2 (2012/BBC DVD Set)

Picture: B-     Sound: C     Extras: C     Episodes: B+

With their community service nearing the end, Simon, Alicia, Kelly, Curtis and Nathan begins to decide on what to do with their lives and their new superpowers.  Who is the mysterious masked man that keeps on helping them?  As secrets begin to be uncovered they will have to decide either uses their powers to become heroes or to make a quick buck in Misfits – Season 2.

Five unruly teenagers find themselves suddenly gifted with superpowers after a supernatural storm.  Simon turns invisible, Alicia is a sex magnet (pun intended), Kelly can read minds, Curtis can turn back time and Nathan is an immortal.  As they try and keep others from finding out or abusing their powers, they soon find they are not the only with powers and they are far from being the worst, but when the mysterious masked man turns out to be a Simon from the future, he tells them that they are destined for great things, but they will all be changed before they can become their future selves....

This series is about a group of teenage kids who have powers, while trying to keep hidden they either accidentally or are forced to kill those who learns about their powers.  In general, they are not evil, but they tend to use their powers for personal/selfish gains (especially the sex addict character Nathan, unfortunately he can never die so he never really learns from his mistakes).   Any attempt at using their powers for self-gain usually ends up with one or all of them dead (Fortunately, the character Curtis can always turn back time to save them).  The series jumps back and forth between the comedic/dysfunctional relationships they have to them learning the gravity of how serious their powers can be.  In the end you can only hope they learn from their mistakes.

I found the picture and sound a little less impressive than my fellow writer in his coverage in both respects in the debut season on DVD reviewed at this link:

Guess a Blu-ray would play back better.  Extras include bonus scenes, Shooting of Misfits featurette and behind the scenes featurette.
