The Collapsed (2011/Anchor Bay DVD)

The world has gone to hell, government and social services have broken down and no longer exist, and the human race is disappearing to some unknown force.  A family of four is trying to get out of the city limits to the countryside and perhaps there, they may find some safe areas, but the danger is not so much the journey but other 'survivors' like them in Justin McConnell’s The Collapsed (2011).

The group of father, mother, son and daughter set out on a journey to get out violence infested city, but after stopping to search for supplies they are left stranded on foot and forced to travel through the woods.  They are not alone, there are other survivors out there who will kill them for their supplies, but even worst, some force, the 'presence'… is hunting them, leaving behind only ghostly laughs, screams and dead bodies in the night... one by one it sets on the family, what can the father do to protect his family from this unseen beast?

This was another “end of the world” horror film, mostly featuring woodland terrain; the characters are all killed off screen and the characters only returns each time to find another bloody body.  While hinting at some otherworldly creature, in the end (which was no surprise BTW) it was actually the father, who was possessed by some evil 'virus' that made people kill each other and then forget about it.  The film looked like it was done on a low budget and shot out in the open with no special effects, but there are tons of extras including trailers, photo gallery, cast and crew bios, commentary from producers and actors, music video and on-line web link to how it was made.
