Gossip Girl - Season 4 (2010 – 2011/Warner Bros. DVD Set)

Picture: B-     Sound: B     Extras: A     Episodes: B+

Welcome back to the world of Gossip Girl with the Season Four set.  After the last season epic ending with Serena and Blair in Paris, and Chuck getting shot see how things pick up.  As Serena and Blair have a summer getaway, what better way to have a summer of romance than to spend it in Paris, the city of romance (and shopping)?  After being shot, Chuck finds a new identity and a new romance but only to return to try and again take control Bass Industries.  Meanwhile, to everyone's surprise, Dan gets to experience some early fatherhood, but as summer moves on, so does time and it's time for the boys and girls to back to college. Get ready for a new season of hot couples hook ups and even hotter meltdowns.

As noted in our past coverage, Gossip Girl is a story of the super rich teenage elites of NY.  It's about friends, family, connections and frenemines and all the sex and sandals between them all.  As the girls find new (true?) love after their breakups. Serena is the little miss congeniality of the group, always able to get any guy with her good looks.  Blair is the rich girl who is climbing the social (and royal) ladder with money and charm.  Chuck is the millionaire playboy, whom this season seems to have a personality change.  Meanwhile, Dan gets to learn what it means to be a father.  Juliet, the newest girl, is the most secretive of them all, the one with everyone's secrets and seems to have an agenda to plotting them against each other... especially Serena.  As everyone now is in college it time to take everything to the next level.

Gossip Girl by the way, is the narrator/on-line blogger of the life of the rich and elite, their social life and dramas.  She somehow is able to find out about events in their personal lives and blog it before they even their friends and family know (which create even more drama).  While all the guys in the series are fairly stoic and just want a faithful and committed girlfriend (except for Chuck) the girls are a bit more elemental, the want not only a rich prince charming, but for all other girls to envy them and all their ex's to be crushed by them.  By Season Four, all the characters have done enough that their sins are coming back to haunt them.  If you were to draw a map with all the relationships of who is connected to whom, it would be more complex than relationships of Wuthering Heights.  The playback is as good in picture and sound as the show is going to get on DVD, so maybe Blu-rays are coming down the line?  Extras include going abroad with cast and crew in Paris, making of behind the scenes, gag reel and unaired scenes.
