King Of Triads (2010/Lionsgate DVD)

Picture: B-     Sound: B-     Extras: C     Film: C+

After the death of the triad head, a new head is needs to be filled, but the various 'families' all have ideas of their own, including the former head's children.  As the various boss begin to extorting the various heirs for more money and power, a power struggle begins and it only those who are most vicious who will become the next head in Dennis Law’s King Of Triads (2010).

The head boss dies and everyone want a piece of his pie, or a larger piece.  As former bosses children read out the will, they realize if they don't act their inheritance would be taken away from them, including their father's position, but with highly trained martial arts and cunning they will have to fight/kill anyone who doesn't agree with them, to prove they are worthy to lead the triad.

A group of half siblings, their underlings and various mob boss factions are in a civil war fighting for the next head and what is to be owed to them.  As someone is killing them off one by one everyone suspects everyone else, and even if they are not fighting for the inheritance they are forced to fight for their own survival.  In the end when there can be only one, and it's a last man/woman standing who wins.  This was shot on 35mm Fuji film and looks good, especially with too many going to digital video and mishandling it, while the Dolby Digital sound is equally effective for a lossy format.  Extras include behind the scene with interviews and trailers.
