The Little Shop of Horrors (1960/Legend Blu-ray)

Legend Films keeps the campy classic coming with this
latest Blu-ray release of The Little Shop of Horrors (1960
version). A Roger Corman classic, this
movie stars Jack Nicholson in one of his earliest film roles, and features
a love story sandwiched around a series of murders and a man-eating plant. Mr. Nicholson shines as meek floral shop
keeper Seymour. He loves his special
man-eating plant so much he’s willing to kill for it to survive, for it can
only be satisfied by the blood and flesh of human beings!
However, something, or someone, comes between them. Audrey (Jackie Joseph) is a beautiful shop
girl who Seymour falls for, and it quickly becomes a case of jealous man-eating
plant versus Seymour’s newfound love.
This Blu-ray includes a wonderfully colorized version of
the film along with the classic, restored black & white theatrical release.
Giving viewers both options has been a mainstay of this recent spate of
releases from Legend, and here’s hoping they continue to do so. Also included is a biting and satirical
commentary from Mystery Science Theater and Rifftrax star Mike
Nelson. Mr. Nelson delivers some hilarious riffs and comments that transports
the enjoyment of this campy Corman classic to a new level.
With respect to the extremely entertaining 1986 Frank Oz
version of Little Shop, this restored 1960 version is the best, and
fans of Mr. Corman (and man-eating plants!) should seek this Blu-ray out!
