After an
accident leaving her in a wheelchair, Jane (Renée Zellweger) is paralyzed not
only in body but in life. Her only
friend is Joey (Forest Whittaker) who believes he can see and talk to angels. After Joey discovers a letter from Jane's son
whom she gave up for adoption 7 years ago, they go on a road trip to reunite
mother and child, and to deliver a song. Along the way they will meet and find other lost
souls, that the body maybe broken, but their spirit still journeys on in Oliver
Dahan’s My Own Love Song.
Jane is an ex-singer, after a car accident killing her husband and leaving her
paralyzed from the waist down, unable to care for her child she gives him up
for adoption. Her only friend is Joey
another patient from the psychiatric ward, whom is also an escapee fugitive. After setting on a road trip to find her lost
son, their car blows up, their money gets lost and stolen, and they are joined
by young woman whose husband has abandoned her. Together, they go on a journey that will
forever change their lives...
This was a very Hallmark-like movie, the story of 3 people, each with their own
problems, a paralyzed former singer, a man who thinks he can talk with angels,
and a woman who lost her husband. While
alone they are all broken, but together they learn they can heal each other. Rejected, jaded, and shunned these characters
have all but given up hope and of living, but through their journey they learn
life goes on as long as they have each other. This film (shot in 35mm film) also stars Nick
Nolte and Elias Koteas, with songs by Bob Dylan.
