Behind The XXX: A Documentary (2010/Brookland Bros./MVD DVD)

This "documentary" is nothing more than a shameless and desperate
cash grab. If this was merely a bonus
feature on another of the company's titles, there would be little cause for
complaint. However, since it is a
standalone title, its many shortcomings are not so easily ignored.
It reveals only the most basic elements of what goes into a film of this nature
- seeing that someone is indeed there holding a camera, and that someone is
there doing makeup. There are few
insights into the process, and almost no questions asked of anyone involved,
let alone an actual interview.
The most puzzling thing about this is that although they made no attempt to
make this into a real documentary, they didn’t try to make it a porno either. True, there are examples of hardcore sex in
the film, but the camera hastily cuts away shortly after the subjects are in
the act. During the course of their
performance, we either only hear the audio, or will be skipped ahead until the
scene has finished.
Whatever potential audience they were aiming for is alienated by the approach
they’ve taken, providing nothing informative, and nothing titillating either.
The picture and sound are both abysmal. It
is plagued by poor lighting and bad camera angles throughout. All of the audio seems to have been captured
by the in-camera mic. It is muffled and
hard to understand at times, with lots of handling noise from the cam.
There are no special features whatsoever, save a couple of trailers. None, however, are for the films shown in this
making-of documentary
From concept to execution, it appears that the movie was done in the course of
a weekend, if not a single day. Pass over
this one - it’s a bore from beginning to end, and there is nothing redeeming
about it.
