SpongeBob Squarepants – Season 6: Volume 2 + Legends
Of The Bikini Bottom + iCarly –
Season 2, Volume 2 (Nickelodeon DVDs)
Picture:
B/B-/C Sound: B/C+/C+ Extras: C/C/D Episodes: B+/B-/D
Viewers
may have expected the moronically, endearing SpongeBob Squarepants to go down hill after 6 seasons, but has
remained as fresh and inventive ever. Of
course many of the episodes are hit or miss (as they always have been), but for
the most part I found myself chuckling at the plethora of jokes that obviously
fly of younger viewers’ heads.
The
writing is creative as it manages to pull in audiences of all ages with the
fast paced nature of the episodes and its slick wit. There is a bit of potty humor here and there,
but even that is a caricature of itself to an extent; being totally self aware
of the idiocy that is occurring.
In this
second volume we find our absorbent friend and his starfish pal Patrick getting
in tons of mischief. We have the return
of superheroes, confined situations, rags to riches to rags stories,
incompetence and so much more it is hard to believe the writers can continue
coming up with new and inspiring tales.

The
picture is presented again in a Full Frame image that is better than anything I
remember from the previous five seasons. The colors are vividly bright
throughout with a crisp, clean image that makes for an overall great viewing
experience. The episodes are sharp, sharp, sharp. The sound again
is a simple Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo that gets the job done, but mainly caters
to the dialogue and adds little atmosphere. The sound is crisp and boisterous,
though fans again will be disappointed with the lack of 5.1 surround track for
this lively series.
The
extras include the following:
Bollywood Bob
How to Make SpongeBob Squarepants
“The Clash of Tritan” Shorts
SpongeGod
Neptune’s Origins
Yellow,
absorbent and now on DVD.
At the
same time, Nickelodeon continues to issue singles like Legends Of The Bikini Bottom, a SpongeBob DVD with six episodes, though you would think this was a
telefilm with the way the text represented the content:
The Monster Who Came In From The Bikini Bottom
Welcome To The Bikini
Bottom Triangle
The Main Drain
Trenchbillies
Sponge-Cano
The Curse Of The Hex
Extras
include behind the scenes of making these shorts and three bonus shorts. Again, we think seasons are sufficiently
releases, but there is much money in doing singles, even for a lesser show like
iCarly, now in a Season 2, Volume 2 set made of a
whopping 2 DVDs. It is more of the same,
but the 10 episodes (how short they are!) come with two TV movies. I wish Carly Simon would dress up as a robot
for her next album and spoof this show while using the name of the show as her
next album title. We are not impressed
with this show, as this link will show:

How about
more of the shows that made the network what it is today? We’ll see.
