Scholastic Storybook Treasures:
Halloween Stories Collection w/Where The Wild Things Are + Treasury
Of 1000 Storybooks Classics 2 (Weston Woods/New Video/Animated Shorts DVD
Sets)

Scholastic is back with two of its most ambitious DVD
collections yet, including the arrival of a set of shorts we could only find as
an import. First is the Halloween Stories Collection which
includes the animated short version of Where
The Wild Things Are, which we covered in a PAL DVD import at this link:
http://www.fulvuedrive-in.com/review/9258/Where+The+Wild+Things+Are+%E2%80%A6
That is the same DVD as is in this box set, which also
includes Teacher From The Black Lagoon,
which we covered at this link:
http://www.fulvuedrive-in.com/review/10264/Adventures+At+School+++Five+Little+Monk
That leaves A Very
Brave Witch, offering the title tale and seven additional tales By The Light Of The Halloween Moon, A Dark, Dark Tale, Georgie, The Witch In The
Cherry Tree, The Three-Legged Cat,
The Three Robbers and Little Tim & The Brave Sea Captain. Those tales are worth of the other discs
included and fit well into this themed set, but the extra shorts are
interchangeable between this volume and the Lagoon DVD.
Treasury Of 1000
Storybooks Classics 2
follows up a first set we missed, but the fact that this is so relatively heavy
and massive shows just how much animated material the company has been
producing over the years. 17 DVDs in
slendercases are included and A Very
Brave Witch and Teacher From The
Black Lagoon are actually included in this set. Other repeats from previous reviews include Crazy
Hair Day, Miss Nelson Has A Field Day, The Wheels On The Bus, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A
Fly and adds interesting volumes on Hans Christian Andersen, James
Marshall and So You Want To Be
President?
These are meant for a younger audience, so the larger sets
are only for children who really enjoy these and/or parents/guardians who want
them to have long-term access to these shows.
Just check what is on which offering to avoid as much overlap as
possible.
The 1.33 X 1 image and Dolby Digital 2.0 sound are the
same in both sets as the previous U.S.
editions, with the PAL DVD import version of Wild looking and sounding a bit better than its U.S. counterpart.
