Crossing
a kidnap thriller with shades of torture porn is what Andrew Paquin tries out
in his recent thriller Open House (2010),
but it quickly becomes formulaic, somewhat exploitive, highly predictable and
even some good actors in the mix cannot help it overcome its endless troubles.
In this
story, a couple (Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer) on the verge of divorce are about
to sell their house, but that all goes wrong when the supposedly interested
David (Brian Geraghty) turns out to be a psychotic who decides to postpone
their plans… possibly forever. The rest
is everything you have seen before, but with no suspense or no point. This is a dull waste of 87 minutes (they
could not even fill that up) and even Anna Paquin (she is the sister of the
director) could not out act Geraghty. If
only they had tried something else.
The 1080p
2.35 X 1 digital high definition image is shot on the 4K Red One camera and has
all kinds of issues here, including motion blur, detail issues and is far from
the best use of this camera I have seen.
The DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mix is not too impressive, not
always well recorded and has a choppy soundfield. Extras include trailer gallery, Deleted
Scenes and feature length audio commentary by Geraghty and Andrew Paquin that
is mixed at best.
