Yet
another entry in the Religious Left melodrama sweepstakes, Rick Famuyiwa’s Our Family Wedding (2010) is a safe
comedy about dueling fathers when two college students (America Ferrera of Ugly Betty and Lance Gross) fall in
love and try to bring their somewhat dysfunctional families together. Forest Whittaker and Carlos Mencia are the
dueling fathers and the results are slightly pleasant, but very predictable.
Famuyiwa
wrote Kasi Lemmon’s underrated Talk To
Me (2007, reviewed elsewhere on this site) and directed Brown Sugar, so this is tamer and
intended to be more commercial. No doubt
there is talent on the screen and all hold their own, but it is not much of what
we have not seen before, so you know pretty much what you are in for when you
see the cover. Still, some will be
entertained and you could do much worse.
Regina King also stars.
The 1080p
2.35 X 1 AVC @ 26.5 digital High Definition image is on the soft side
throughout, has its share of motion blur and color is limited, suggesting an HD
shoot. Some of the shots look nice, but
that does not last for long. The DTS-HD
MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless mix is the default highlight here, but this is
dialogue and joke-based, so don’t expect a great soundfield. Extras include a Digital Copy DVD-ROM for PC
and PC portable devices, several making of featurettes, Gag Reel, Deleted &
Extended Scenes.
