The stage
is set. The contestants are here. In three days one of these contestants will
walk away with $25,000 in a Bollywood-style singing contest hosted by a loins
millionaire. In these three days the
contestants will do whatever it takes to become the next singing idol, in
particular 5 Indian-Americans and one Caucasian Indophile. Hearts will swoon, love and hate will meet,
tradition and modern will clash, but in the end there can be only one.
Loins of Punjab
Presents (2007) is a hilarious feature a comedy filled with perceived
Indian cultures and stereotypes. When it
comes down to showbiz, fame and money, Bollywood can be just as entertaining as
Hollywood. Director Manish Acharya plays Vikram, who's
about to be outsourced overseas in 2 weeks. Rrita, a well connected 'saint' willing to do
anything to win the contest. Turbanotorios, wants to introduce Indian hip-hop. Josh, an American who love anything Indian and
is trying promoting Joga (Yoga + Jogging). Sania an actress who doesn't know word in
Hindi but want to be in Bollywood, and Preeti Patel a young Indian girl with an
overly supportive family with color coordinated shirts.
This was an amusing film, it was like if you mixed Indian cultures with
traditional ideas with modern values and then crossed it with American Idol. The characters are all eccentrics, far from
being perfect each one with their own flaws and problems, but its makes them
all the more believable and admirable. That
even from a world of different culture, deep underneath we are all human, good
and bad. The 2-disc special edition
includes commentaries with writers, critics and director, behind the
scenes, interviews with characters and cast, deleted scenes, short film,
trailers and music videos.
