Vision revisits three of their past popular titles on DVD by reissuing them on
Blu-ray and they are three interesting programs which you can read all about in
our previous DVD coverage. I am still
disappointed by the Emerson, Lake &
Palmer show, but it is still good to see them. Turns out the DVD image was cut to be 1.33,
looking better here in 1080i 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition, but still having
motion blur and other flaws one would expect from an older HD shoot. This is much better than the DVD since
missing framing has been restored, but the new flaws hold the rating back.
The Moody Blues is also 1080i 1.78 X 1 digital
High Definition and the interviews are shot that way. There is also old analog video (PAL and NTSC)
cut into the program and also has 16mm concert footage that would look even
better had this been a 1080p transfer/production, yet this looks better than
the DVD and is a nice upgrade.
That
leaves The Shadows, whose Blu-ray is
no major improvement over the DVD edition, is presented 1080i 1.78 X 1 digital
High Definition and may be a touch poorer in sound for reasons I will explain
in a minute. It is still a better
concert than I expected and still is.
Since then, The Final Tour
was followed up by another one, but Cliff Richards was there for the whole
thing and we include that link so you can distinguish between the two releases:

All have
DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mixes, Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM 2.0
Stereo, but all the DVDs had regular DTS and the sound is barely different from
the DVD editions. It is somewhat
compressed on Emerson and as
discussed above, shows more sonic limits on Shadows since the lossless shows more flaws. There are no extras on any of the discs, save
the interview on The Shadows Blu-ray
that repeats the DVD edition.
